Cropping vs Canvas Expansion
Use Crop to fill when only part of the image should remain. Use Keep full image when you need a square or portrait ratio without losing the original photo.
Choosing a Ratio
1:1 is common for profiles and square posts, 4:5 for portrait feeds, and 16:9 for video thumbnails. Platform recommendations can change, so check the latest upload rules before publishing.
How to Use
- Select an image file.
- Choose how to fit the aspect ratio. Crop to fill crops part of the image, while Keep full image preserves the entire image and adds background space.
- Select an aspect ratio such as Free, Original, 1:1, 4:5, 5:4, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2, 2:3, 16:9, 9:16, or 1.91:1.
- In Crop to fill mode, drag the crop area to reposition it and drag the edge or corner handles to resize it. You can also enter X, Y, width, and height values for precise adjustment.
- In Keep full image mode, select a background option and image alignment. The original image is not enlarged; the output canvas is expanded automatically to match the target ratio.
- Check the final image and output dimensions in the result preview.
- Select an output format and download the result.

Calculation and Conversion Notes
Image Cropper draws the original image onto a browser canvas. In Crop to fill mode, it renders only the selected coordinates and size. In Keep full image mode, it expands the output canvas to the target ratio without enlarging the original image, then fills the added area with a solid, transparent, or blurred background. Selected images are not uploaded to a server and are processed only in your browser.

Keep full image expands only the canvas and does not enlarge the original. A larger output resolution does not create missing detail.
FAQ
Can I change the aspect ratio without cropping the image?
Yes. Choose Keep full image to expand the output canvas to the target ratio without removing any part of the original. The extra area can use a solid, transparent, or blurred background.
Does Keep full image enlarge the original image?
No by default. The original image keeps its size, and only the output canvas expands where extra space is needed.
Does a larger output resolution improve image quality?
No. The canvas can become larger, but it does not add detail that was not present in the original image.
What is the difference between Crop to fill and Keep full image?
Crop to fill removes parts outside the selected crop area. Keep full image preserves the whole image and adds background space where the target ratio needs it.
Can I save with a transparent background?
Transparent backgrounds are available for PNG and WebP output. JPG does not support transparency, so it is saved with the selected background color.
Can I fine-tune the crop area with numbers?
Yes. You can adjust the crop visually on the image and also enter X, Y, width, and height values for pixel-level control.
